Jay Root is an accomplished investigative reporter with extensive experience in prominent media organizations. Root served as an Investigative Reporter for Texas Tribune from May 2011 to April 2020 and continued in a similar role at Houston Chronicle from April 2020 to May 2022. Prior to these positions, Root worked at The Associated Press from July 2008 to May 2011, where recognition included being named AP Staff Reporter of the Year twice for impactful watchdog reporting. Root's career also includes a notable tenure as Austin Bureau Chief at Fort Worth Star-Telegram from November 1996 to June 2008. Currently, Root holds the position of Investigative Reporter at The New York Times since May 2022.
