Andreas Hielscher is the Chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at New York University since July 2020, previously serving as the Director of the Biophotonics and Optical Radiology Laboratory at Columbia University from September 2001 to July 2020, along with a role as Professor of Biomedical & Electrical Engineering and Radiology. Prior experience includes serving as an Assistant Professor at SUNY Downstate Medical Center from September 1998 to August 2001 and as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory from September 1995 to March 1998, where significant contributions included the development of optical tomographic imaging reconstruction algorithms and exploring polarized light imaging for tissue characterization.
