Yanoula Athanassakis serves as the Director of the Environmental Humanities at the NYU Center for the Humanities since May 2014 and holds the position of Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at New York University since August 2016. Athanassakis has an extensive background in women's and gender studies, having been a Postdoctoral New Faculty Fellow at the American Council of Learned Societies and visiting faculty at Rutgers University. Athletic experience includes serving as a yoga and movement instructor at various institutions including Sacred Sounds Yoga and Movement and Yoga Stream. Athanassakis received a Ph.D. in American Literature and Global Studies from UC Santa Barbara, along with multiple Master’s degrees in English Language and Literature from UC Santa Barbara and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
