Alessandra Lehmen

President, Environmental Law Commission, Rio Grande Do Sul Chapter at Brazilian Bar Association

Alessandra Lehmen is a highly experienced legal professional specializing in environmental, climate, and regulatory law. Alessandra is currently a Partner and Head of Environmental, Climate, and Regulatory Law at Juchem Advocacia, a Brazilian boutique law firm. Alessandra has been recognized for their work in environmental law by British publications Euromoney Expert Guides and PLC Which Lawyer.

In addition to their role at Juchem Advocacia, Alessandra holds several leadership positions. Alessandra serves as the President of the Environmental Law Commission at the Rio Grande do Sul Chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association, where they develop policy initiatives on environmental, climate, and public health matters. Alessandra has also served as the Vice-President and a member of the same commission. Alessandra is actively involved in promoting gender diversity in business as the Head of the ESG Committee at 30% Club Brasil, a global campaign aimed at increasing female representation at board and executive committee levels.

Alessandra is also engaged in academia and research. Alessandra is a Law Professor at UCS - University of Caxias do Sul, where they specialize in ESG and climate change. Alessandra is a researcher at CNPq's National Institute of Science and Technology for Studies on the United States, focusing on climate diplomacy and paradiplomacy. Alessandra is a member of the World Commission on Environmental Law (WCEL) at the IUCN and the UCS Science Network at the Union of Concerned Scientists.

Alessandra'sextensive work experience also includes roles as a board member of the Environmental Council of the City of Porto Alegre, a member of the Legal Committee at Câmara Brasil-Alemanha no RS, and a member of the National Commission on Climate Change and Environmental Disasters at Conselho Federal da OAB. Overall, Alessandra Lehmen has a diverse and accomplished career in environmental and regulatory law, academia, and global advocacy.

Alessandra Lehmen has a diverse education history. Alessandra obtained a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, where they also earned a Ph.D. in International Law. Alessandra furthered their legal studies with a Masters degree in International Law from the same university. Alessandra also attended the prestigious Harvard Law School for a Negotiation Program in 2002. In 2013, they pursued a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in Environmental Law & Policy at Stanford Law School. More recently, Alessandra was awarded the LSE W50 Scholar title in Organizational Leadership by The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in 2022. Additionally, they hold a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Business Law and Economics from FGV - Fundação Getulio Vargas. Alessandra has obtained certifications including a Certificate in ESG Investing from the CFA Institute and a license to practice Law from the New York State Bar Association. Alessandra is also a licensed lawyer under the OAB - Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil.
