Don Nelson

Don joined Oak Ridge Financial in September 2018.

Don is a transactional broker, and he has no managed accounts. Every position in his accounts pays a dividend, which smooths out the process. Don believes that “you shouldn’t borrow money to invest,” and because of this, he has no margins accounts. His model portfolio consists of 1/3 preferred stocks, 1/3 dividend stocks, and 1/3 municipal bonds.

Don has been a stock broker for 34 years and has worked in several firms including Dain Bosworth, Kinnard, Wachovia, and Feltl. Before joining the financial industry, Don began his career selling dental supplies and equipment for 10 years, and after that, he spent 5 years as a homebuilder and remodeler.

Don is a Minneapolis native and attended Southwest High School. He then went on to receive an education from Augsburg College and the U of M. He has his Series 7 and 63 certifications.

Don is married, and together him and his wife have a large family of 5 children and 11 grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, music, and being active in his church.
