Laura Rivas

Laura Rivas serves as the Community Schools Manager at Oakland Unified School District since September 2021, advocating for high-quality educational experiences for families, particularly those from historically marginalized backgrounds. Previously, Laura held the position of Family Engagement and Equity Specialist at Berkeley Unified School District, where collaboration with parents and school staff was emphasized to foster meaningful partnerships. Additional experience includes roles as an Immigrant Rights Organizer at East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy, a Program Associate at NNIRR, and an Academic Coordinator at ASCEND K-8 School. Academic credentials include a Master of Arts in Cultural Anthropology and Social Transformation from California Institute of Integral Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in History/Psychology from Loyola Marymount University. Laura continues education at Calmecac Tlahlocan since January 2021.
