Andrew Low

Software Engineer at Oasis Labs

Andrew Low has a long and varied work experience. Andrew began in 2012 as a Research Assistant for the Paytan Biogeochemistry Program, where they used ARC-GIS to visualize population distributions of various Pacific seabirds and identified trends in population data with R. In 2013, they became a Research Assistant for the History of Life Program, where they collected and analyzed body size data of ancient echinoderms and used R to identify and quantify relationships between environmental factors and body size. In 2014, they became a Research Assistant for The Carnegie Institute, where they assisted laboratory researchers in their study of a model monocot species called Setaria and used bioinformatics software to pinpoint the loci of key genes. In 2016, they became a Research Assistant for the Kuriyan Lab at UC Berkeley and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, where they designed molecular dynamics simulations to understand how the cellular environment and surrounding ligands affect the structure and function of EGFR, a growth factor receptor linked to several forms of cancer. Andrew also implemented a Monte Carlo simulation with periodic boundary conditions in C to simulate a controlled system and isolated the T-cell receptor complex to determine how ligands change the conformation of the trans-membrane kinase domain. That same year, they also became a Strategy Consultant for Valley Consulting Group, where they led a professional development course for new club members and mentored students pursuing both engineering and business-oriented side projects. In 2017, they became a Software Engineering Intern for Cisco, where they optimized deployment and setup routines of Next-Generation Firewalls as part of Cisco’s Firepower Business Unit. Andrew also automated the software upgrade process for existing Next-Generation Firewalls and Management Centers and built a web app using Django to streamline the initialization of multiple firewalls and their management centers. In 2018, they became Vice President of Development for Valley Consulting Group, where they planned a curriculum for a semester-long professional development course for new club members. Finally, in 2018 they became a Software Engineer Intern for Uber and in 2019 they became a Software Engineer for Oasis Labs.

Andrew Low attended the University of California, Berkeley from 2015 to 2019, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science in 2019 and a Master's degree in Computer Science in 2018.
