Carmela Passaro's work experience includes various roles in the biotechnology and medical research fields. Carmela started their career as a Visiting Scientist at the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research in 2012 and later also held a Visiting Scientist position at Barts Cancer Institute in 2014. From 2013 to 2015, they worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Department of Translational Medical Sciences. In 2015, they became a Postdoctoral Fellow at the American-Italian Cancer Foundation, and simultaneously worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School until 2018. Carmela then joined the American Brain Tumor Association as a Postdoctoral Fellow before transitioning to the industry, starting as a Scientist I at Sarepta Therapeutics in 2018. Carmela later worked at Sana Biotechnology, Inc. in roles including Scientist and Senior Scientist in in vitro pharmacology and biomarker discovery for cell therapy. Currently, they are employed at Obsidian Therapeutics as a Senior Scientist, focusing on cell therapy.
Carmela Passaro completed their education with a Degree in Medical Biotecnologies from Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II in the years 2002-2008. Later, they pursued their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Molecular Oncology and Endocrinology from the same university during 2010-2013.
