Marcus McCurdy has worked in various roles in the technology industry since 2002. Marcus'smost recent position is Principal Machine Learning Engineer at Obsidian Security, which they have held since 2018. Prior to that, they were a Data Scientist at Beaxy Digital Ltd. from 2017 to 2018, where they developed blockchain proof of concept applications, researched cryptocurrency code bases, and architected scalable solutions to real time exchange transactions using NoSQL. From 2012 to 2016, they held two roles at Red-Spark.com, Lead Data Scientist and Software Engineer Manager. As Lead Data Scientist, they managed all aspects of the machine learning team, led guided research paper reading sessions, and trained classifiers on highly imbalanced datasets. As Software Engineer Manager, they developed a GoLang WebSocket proxy server deployed to Amazon ECS, a programatic feed bidding platform in GoLang, and a fitness tracking Slack bot in Haskell running inside Docker deployed to EC2. In 2016, they were the Director of Engineering for Loxo, where they were building the next generation ATS. From 2009 to 2007, they were a Research Engineer at Drexel University and a Combat System Engineer at NAVSEA. Marcus began their career in 2002 as an Agent at Best Buy, where they specialized in hardware and software upgrade and installation and virus and malware removal.

Marcus McCurdy has a MS in Computer Science from Drexel University, which they obtained between 2009 and 2012. Marcus also has a BS in Computer Engineering from California State University, Long Beach, which they obtained between 2001 and 2007. Additionally, they have obtained a number of certifications from Coursera, including Deep Learning Specialization, Sequence Models, Building a Data Science Team, Convolutional Neural Networks, Improving Deep Neural Networks: Hyperparameter tuning, Regularization and Optimization, Structuring Machine Learning Projects, Neural Networks and Deep Learning, and Machine Learning Foundations: A Case Study Approach.
