Charles (Clay) Smith has worked in a variety of roles since 2008. In 2008, they became the owner of QuikTech Solutions LLC, where they worked with clients to develop hardware and software solutions for handling business tasks, as well as providing internal process improvement consulting. In 2010, they began working as a Computer Scientist at the Naval Oceanographic Office, where they served as a subject matter expert for several software development projects, and acted as a liaison for systems integration, with a focus on software security and code improvement. In 2010, they also began working as an Engineer at Agile Robotics. Finally, in 2022, they began working as Head of Machine Learning and Software Engineer at Ocean Aero Inc, where they are responsible for developing and integrating new sensor packages into the TRITON autonomous surface and subsurface vehicle, documenting software hardware integration, and developing new algorithms and processes.

Charles (Clay) Smith's education history includes attending St. John High School from 2001 to 2004, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College from 2004 to 2006, University of South Alabama from 2006 to 2008 where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, and again from 2008 to 2011 where they earned a Master of Science in Computer Science. In 2019, they attended The University of Southern Mississippi to earn a degree in Uncrewed Maritime Systems.
