Following this, from 1997 to 1998, they pursued a Doctoral Program in Biology and Medicine at the Gulbenkian Institute of Science (IGC). Subsequently, from 1998 to 2002, they attended the University of California, San Francisco as a Ph.D. student, specializing in Genetics.
