Nick Milne has extensive experience in research and engineering. Nick started their career in 2009 as an Undergraduate Researcher at the University of Otago. Nick then moved to the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research in 2010 as a Student Researcher. In 2011, they began their PhD Researcher role at TU Delft. In 2016, they became a Research Scientist at Evolva. In 2018, they were both a Founder at Octarine Bio and a Postdoctoral Researcher at The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability, where they worked to engineer yeast to produce molecules ranging from high-value pharmaceuticals, to cosmetic ingredients and bio-polymer precursors. As a pet project, they also worked on engineering brewing yeast to create beers with novel flavours properties and even health benefits.
Nick Milne attended New Plymouth Boys' High School before obtaining a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biotechnology from Victoria University of Wellington between 2007 and 2010. Nick then completed an Honours (Masters equivalent) in Biotechnology from the same university in 2009 and 2010. Finally, they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Metabolic Engineering from Delft University of Technology in 2011 and 2016.
