Dr. Ranjan Malhotra graduated with honors from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), where he completed their accelerated six-year Bachelor’s/Medical Degree Program in 1995. The Missouri native then completed his internship at St. John’s Mercy Hospital in St. Louis and his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center before deciding to further specialize in cornea/external disease and refractive surgery. He earned a fellowship position at the Dean McGee Eye Institute in Oklahoma City and is board-certified in ophthalmology.
Dr. Malhotra returned to his hometown of St. Louis in 2000 when he joined Ophthalmology Associates in a partnership with Dr. Gregg Berdy. Dr. Malhotra is also the primary investigator for many FDA trials for medications used in the treatment of glaucoma, dry eye, conjunctivitis, allergy and bacterial/viral infections. Because of his front-line experience with medication development, he is invited to give continuing education lectures to his peers across the country and at many professional meetings.
In addition to his primary practice, Dr. Malhotra is involved in the education of residents at Washington University and at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in St. Louis. He has satellite offices in Sullivan and St. Peter’s, Mo., and has served as a board member for the Missouri Society of Eye Physicians and for the St. Louis Chapter of the Indian Medical Council/ American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin.
Dr. Malhotra, his parents, wife, and brother, and sister-in-law established the Malhotra Scholarship for Academic Excellence, the largest endowed scholarship UMKC has received to date. Dr. Malhotra and his wife were also significant contributors to establishing a permanent building for the Bal-Vihar Center for Indian Cultural Education in St. Louis.
