Lucas Sabalka began their work experience in 2006 as a Krener Assistant Professor at UC Davis, where they focused on geometric group theory and metric geometry. Following that, they worked as a Riley Assistant Professor at Binghamton University from 2009 to 2012, conducting research in geometric group theory and combinatorics. Lucas then joined Saint Louis University as an Assistant Professor from 2012 to 2013, specializing in mathematics and statistics with a focus on geometric group theory. In 2013, Sabalka started working at Ocuvera as a Computer Vision Specialist, responsible for developing customized algorithms for tracking people and alerting nurses. In addition, they oversaw depth video intake, annotation, and testing for the company. Lucas also served as the Chief Scientist at Ocuvera from 2016 to 2022, managing research grant teams and acting as the Principal Investigator for Ocuvera's research grants. Currently, Sabalka holds the position of Chief Data and Analytics Officer at Ocuvera, where they assist the CEO with data analysis and strategizes about long-term decisions for the company. Additionally, Sabalka has worked as a Senior Data Science Consultant for independent companies through Ocuvera since 2015. Throughout their career, they have published multiple papers in the field of geometric group theory.

Lucas Sabalka completed their Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, and History at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 1998 to 2002. Lucas then pursued further education and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mathematics from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign between 2002 and 2006.
