Research Team Lead at Odin Vision

Zachary Baum has a diverse work experience spanning several industries and roles. Zachary began their career as a Research Assistant at The Perk Lab, where they worked on developing computer-assisted solutions for image-guided therapy and medical education. Zachary then moved on to Queen's School of Computing, where they served as a Teaching Assistant for several courses.

In 2016, Zachary joined Queen's University as a Campus Tour Guide, leading prospective students and families on tours of the campus and providing information about the university. Zachary later progressed to the role of Senior Campus Tour Guide and also provided logistical and program support during recruitment events.

In 2018, Zachary took on a role at Sail Canada | Voile Canada, initially serving as a Director-at-Large, where they provided governance and strategic direction for the association. Zachary then became the Secretary & Governance Committee Chair, overseeing core financial information and updating policies to align with international best practices in sailing.

At Verdure Imaging, Inc., Zachary held two positions. Zachary started as a Software Engineer, responsible for developing ultrasound-based diagnostic software for monitoring and assessing scoliosis. Zachary ensured the software was well-designed, user-friendly, and compliant with FDA and other regulatory bodies. Eventually, they became a Senior AI Scientist, specializing in artificial intelligence (AI) and working on AI projects for the company.

Zachary also worked at Atheneum as an AI/ML Engineer, where they led the development and application of machine learning techniques to optimize internal operations for expert recruitment and compensation. Zachary played a crucial role in establishing end-to-end machine learning workflows to support real-time operational decision making.

In 2020, Zachary joined UCL as a Teaching Assistant, assisting with grading, meeting students, and facilitating laboratory sessions for various courses, including Artificial Intelligence in Surgery, Machine Learning in Medical Imaging, and Algorithms.

Most recently, in 2023, Zachary joined Odin Vision as a Senior Research Scientist, utilizing their expertise in research to contribute to the company's vision and goals.

Zachary Baum pursued their education diligently, with a focus on the field of medical technology. Zachary began their educational journey at Queen's University, where they obtained their Bachelor of Computing (Honours) degree in Biomedical Computing in the years 2013 to 2017.

Building on their undergraduate studies, Zachary went on to specialize in the field of computer-assisted surgery and image-guided surgical navigation. From 2017 to 2019, they attended Queen's University once again and successfully completed their Master of Science degree in Computing.

Driven by their passion for medical imaging and medical physics, Zachary continued their academic pursuits at UCL. Zachary embarked on a Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Physics & Biomedical Engineering - Medical Imaging, commencing in 2019 and expected to be completed in 2023.

In addition to their academic accomplishments, Zachary obtained a Pilot Certificate - Basic Operations from Transport Canada - Transports Canada in May 2019, showcasing their diverse interests and achievements beyond their primary field of study.
