Brian Watts, Ph.D.

Brian Watts, Ph.D. is a highly experienced scientist with a background in biochemistry and biophysics. Brian currently works at Oerth Bio as a Scientist in the field of biochemistry and biophysics. Prior to this, they spent seven years at The Duke Human Vaccine Institute, where they served as the BIA Core Facility Manager. In this role, they managed the operation of the BIA Core Facility, provided technical expertise and training in various assay development techniques, and handled the financial management of the facility.

Before joining The Duke Human Vaccine Institute, Dr. Watts worked at Duke University for six years as a Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant and later as a Research Associate. Here, they conducted research on multivalent ligand binding in biological systems and gained expertise in various biochemical and biophysical assay development techniques. Brian also served as a Chemical Hygiene Safety Officer during their time at Duke University.

Prior to their work at Duke University, Dr. Watts worked at Syngenta as a Research Associate, where they designed and optimized biochemical assays for the Enzymes/Bioethanol research group. Additionally, they worked at Asymchem as an Assistant Projects Manager, where they were responsible for managing R&D projects and facilitating communication between production facilities and clients.

Dr. Watts also has experience working at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), where they served as a Biological Sciences Laboratory Technician. In this role, they conducted research on DNA replication fidelity and gained expertise in various DNA replication and enzymology techniques.

Overall, Dr. Watts has a strong background in biochemistry and biophysics, with extensive experience in assay development, protein characterization, and project management.

Brian Watts, Ph.D. received a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Physics from North Carolina State University in the years 2003 to 2008. Brian later went on to pursue a Ph.D. in Chemistry at Duke University from 2009 to 2015, earning the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
