Alayna Van Tassel has a diverse work experience that spans over two decades. Alayna'smost recent role was as the Deputy Treasurer and Executive Director at the Office of the Massachusetts State Treasurer and Receiver General. Alayna held this position since January 2015. Prior to this, Alayna served as the Chief of Staff for the House Committee on Post-Audit and Oversight from September 2010 to January 2015. Alayna also worked as the Budget and Policy Director at the Office of Senator Pat Jehlen from October 2008 to September 2010. Alayna has held various roles in the political field, including as a Budget and Policy Advisor at the Office of Senator Jim Marzilli, Staff Director at the Office of Rep. Alice Wolf, and Legislative Aide at the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Alayna has also gained experience in government relations and development coordination during their time at Population Connection and Georgetown University Hospital. Alayna began their career in 2001 and has since accumulated a wealth of knowledge and skills in public administration and policy.

Alayna Van Tassel obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Government from Suffolk University, which they pursued from 1997 to 2001. Later, in 2005 to 2006, they attended The George Washington University, where they achieved a Master of Arts degree in Public Policy with a concentration in Women's Studies.
