Hugh Hume QPM currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer at the Office of the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland since July 2024 and holds the position of Deputy Vice President at EPAC/EACN since December 2021, focusing on police oversight. Prior to these roles, Hugh Hume was the Commissioner at the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission from February 2021 to August 2024, conducting independent investigations into police misconduct, and served as the Deputy Chief Inspector at the Garda Síochána Inspectorate from November 2017 to February 2021, overseeing the inspection of Ireland's national police service. Hugh Hume's extensive career in law enforcement includes a tenure as Chief Superintendent with the Police Service of Northern Ireland from December 1986 to November 2017, where responsibilities encompassed serious criminal investigations, project management, and financial governance, as well as establishing multi-agency teams to address community issues. Hugh Hume holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Policing from the University of Portsmouth.
