J Purdy has had a diverse work experience in the field of law enforcement, starting with their role as a Police Officer in the South Daytona City Police Department from 1992 to 1994. They then joined the Lee County Sheriff's Office as a Major Crimes Detective from 1994 to 1999. Following this, J Purdy worked as a District Security Officer for the United States Marshals Service from 1999 to 2001. In the same year, they became the Chief of Investigations at the Office of the State Attorney, 20th Judicial Circuit Florida, a position which they currently hold. Since 2007, J Purdy has also been an Adjunct Instructor for the Lee County School District, where they have contributed to the development of specialized law enforcement courses and implemented blended learning programs. Additionally, J Purdy served as a Medevac Helicopter Crew Chief in the United States Army Reserve from 1987 to 1993.

J Purdy has a diverse education history and additional certifications. They obtained a Bachelors degree in Management from Florida SouthWestern State College. They also completed the Police Executive Leadership Graduate Program at the University of Louisville, focusing on Public Safety Administration. Furthermore, J Purdy earned a Masters degree in Criminal Justice from Florida International University. In terms of additional certifications, they obtained a Firearms Instructor Certification and a General Instructor Certification from the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission in December 2007. Additionally, J Purdy has been certified as a Law Enforcement Officer by the same institution since October 1992.
