Alexandra Pehlken has a diverse range of experience in sustainable manufacturing systems, resource management, waste technology, and energy efficiency. Alexandra has held positions such as Head of Sustainable Manufacturing Systems at OFFIS - Institute for Information Technology, where they lead a group focused on supporting companies in tackling future challenges using ICT. Alexandra has also worked as an EU external evaluator for the European Commission, a Vorstandsmitglied at Oldenburger Energiecluster Olec E.V., and as Leiterin at Steinbeis Center Resource. Additionally, Alexandra has been a Research Group Leader at Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, where they led a funded research group exploring material cascade utilization for sustainable resource management. Alexandra has also served as a Deputy Professor at the University of Kassel, a Project Leader at Carl von Ossietzky University, a Scholarship recipient at Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg, a Research Assistant at Bremen University, and a Scientific staff member at the International Feed Association.

Alexandra Pehlken's education history includes obtaining a Doctor's Degree in Mining and Mineral Engineering from RWTH Aachen University, from 1998 to 2002. Prior to that, they also attended the University of Cape Town for a brief period in 1997, focusing on Mining - Mineral Processing - Recycling. Alexandra Pehlken initially pursued their education at RWTH Aachen University, where they earned a Diplom Engineer (Dipl.-Ing.) degree in Mining and Mineral Engineering from 1992 to 1997.

In addition to their formal education, Alexandra Pehlken has obtained additional certifications. In June 2007, they earned a Quality Manager certification from TUEV Nord. Alexandra also obtained a Health and Safety Officer/ Fachkraft fuer Arbeitssicherheit certification in June 2002 from Deutsche Steinkohle Saar - Fachhochschule fuer Bergbau, Rohstoffveredelung und Arbeitswissenschaften.
