Lien Bertier

Scientific Director at Ohalo Genetics

Lien Bertier's work experience began as a Research Scholar at the University of Florida in 2008, where they focused on developing a biological insecticide against mosquito larvae using biotechnology. They then moved on to UGent in 2009, where they worked as a PhD student studying the roles of polyploidy and hybridization in speciation and ecological adaptation in the plant pathogen Phytophthora. This research provided insights into adaptation mechanisms in plant pathogens for crop protection strategies. In 2014, Bertier joined the University of California, Davis as a Postdoctoral Researcher, leading the genome editing efforts in Richard Michelmore's lab. Their work mainly targeted lettuce and involved developing innovative applications for gene discovery and plant breeding using genome editing techniques. Most recently, Bertier became the Scientific Director at Ohalo Genetics in 2022, where they continue to contribute their expertise.

Lien Bertier earned a Master's degree in Bioscience Engineering with a specialization in Molecular Biology from KU Leuven. Lien completed their studies from 2003 to 2008.
