Chris Freeman

Deputy Director, Facility Support at Ohio Department of Youth Services

Chris Freeman was appointed Deputy Director of Facility Support in the summer of 2022 after serving in multiple leadership roles at DYS since joining the agency in 1996 as a corrections officer. In this role, he oversees the Bureau of Health Care Services, Security Administration, Unit Management, and Education (The Buckeye United School District).

Chris’s prior roles include Bureau Chief of Parole Services, Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent at the Cuyahoga Hills and Indian River campuses, Operations Administrator, and social worker, among others.

Chris holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Defiance College, where he minored in psychology. He is a certified Critical Incident management Instructor and a recognized member of the American Correctional Association, Ohio Warden and Superintendent Association, National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice, and the Ohio Department of Youth Services Executive Leadership Class of 2006.
