Matthew Oyster has a diverse work experience in legal and compliance roles. Matthew currently serves as the Chief Legal Counsel for the Ohio Senate, starting in March 2023. Prior to that, they worked as Of Counsel at Ice Miller LLP from August 2022 to March 2023. Matthew also has experience as the VP of Compliance at PointsBet from October 2021 to August 2022. Matthew held various roles at the Ohio Casino Control Commission, including General Counsel and Chief Ethics Officer, Director of Licensing & Investigations, and Deputy General Counsel. Matthew started their legal career as an Assistant Attorney General at the Ohio Attorney General's Office. Overall, they have extensive experience in both public and private sectors, specializing in legal counsel and compliance.
Matthew Oyster has a Doctor of Law (JD) degree from Ohio Northern University's Claude W. Pettit College of Law, which they obtained from 2007 to 2010. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Political Science and Government from Ohio Northern University, graduating between 2003 and 2007.
In terms of certifications, Matthew obtained a Certified Public Manager credential from the Ohio Department of Administrative Services in April 2016. Matthew also holds several federal and state bar admissions, including being admitted to the Federal Bar by the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio in July 2011 and February 2011, respectively. Additionally, they obtained state bar admission from the Supreme Court of Ohio in November 2010. Furthermore, Matthew acquired a Legal Intern Certificate from the Supreme Court of Ohio in July 2009.
