Trent Riley has a diverse work experience in the museum and higher education sectors. Trent currently works as the Chief Development Officer at Oklahoma Contemporary. Prior to this, they served as the Major Gifts Officer at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, where they secured major gifts and managed donor relationships. Trent also held roles as the Membership Manager and Development & Membership Associate at the museum, where they oversaw the national membership program and organized fundraising appeals. Before their museum experience, they worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Oklahoma State University, gaining practical teaching experience. Additionally, they served as an Archival and Collections Intern at the 45th Infantry Division Museum, where they conducted research, provided tours, and digitized archival collections.

Trent Riley attended Oklahoma State University from 2008 to 2013, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in History. Trent then pursued further education at the same university from 2013 to 2016, and obtained a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Public/Applied History.
