Josie Ehlers

Josie Ehlers serves as the Director of Occupational Health and Safety at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium since September 2024. Prior to this role, Josie held the position of Safety Compliance Lead at Nebraska Public Power District from June 2020 to September 2024, and worked as an Industrial Hygienist at both the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and the U.S. Department of Labor from June 2019 to June 2020 and September 2018 to June 2019, respectively. Josie began their career as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Nebraska Medical Center from August 2015 to July 2018, and was previously an Air Quality Compliance Inspector/Program Specialist II at the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy from December 2012 to January 2016. Josie Ehlers earned a PhD in Occupational Health and Toxicology from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in December 2018, a Master of Public Health in Environmental, Agricultural, and Occupational Health from UNMC College of Public Health in December 2015, and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Creighton University in May 2010.
