Luis R. Padilla

Luis R. Padilla has a diverse work experience in the field of veterinary medicine and animal care. Starting in 2000, they worked as an Intern Veterinarian at Oradell Animal Hospital before moving on to the Saint Louis Zoo where they served as a Veterinary Resident from 2001 to 2004. Luis R. then joined the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden as an Associate Veterinarian from 2004 to 2006. Following this, they held supervisory roles as a Veterinary Medical Officer at the Smithsonian National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute from 2006 to 2011. At the Saint Louis Zoo, they held various positions including Staff Veterinarian from 2011 to 2013, Director of Animal Health from 2013 onwards, and Vice President of Animal Collections from 2019 to 2022. Currently, they serve as the President & CEO at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium since November 2022. With their extensive experience, Luis R. Padilla has demonstrated expertise in animal health management and leadership in the zoological field.

Luis R. Padilla attended Immaculate Conception High School from 1988 to 1992, where they earned their High School Diploma. Luis R. then went on to Cornell University from 1992 to 1996, where they completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, specializing in Ecology and Systematics. Continuing their education at Cornell University, Luis pursued their passion for Veterinary Medicine, earning their Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from 1996 to 2000.
