Prior to OMEGA, Sam co-founded Vertica Systems (acquired by Hewlett Packard) and Cambridge Mobile Telematics, an Intelligent Software company in the Financial Services and Insurance vertical. Sam is a leading technical authority in the fields of AI and Big Data. As a faculty member of MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), Sam has co-directed MIT’s Data Systems & Artificial Intelligence Lab (DSAIL).
Sam has been named as a Top 35 Innovator Under 35 by Technology Review magazine. He is the recipient of several awards, including the NSF CAREER Award, the Sloan Foundation Fellowship, best paper awards in VLDB, and a best paper award in MobiCom. He also received a “test of time” award in SIGMOD, and a ten-year best paper award in VLDB. Sam holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley and Bachelors and Masters degrees in Computer Science from MIT.
