Angelina (Angie) Mertens has a diverse range of work experience in various roles and industries.
Starting in 2006, they worked as a Researcher, Assistant Teacher, and Conference Interpreter at the Catholic University of Freiburg. During this time, they conducted qualitative research, developed and taught lesson plans, and provided translation services for education conferences.
In 2011, Angie worked as an Education, Carlo Schmid Fellow at UNESCO. Angelina (Angie) supported capacity assessment exercises and assisted in organizing workshops and events related to education sector planning and disaster risk reduction.
From 2013 to 2014, they served as a Researcher at the Catholic University of Freiburg, where they managed and implemented innovative concepts for community integration of the elderly and taught research methods to Social Work students.
As a Consultant from 2010 to 2015, Angie worked with various organizations such as UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning and Caritas International, strategizing and implementing fundraising plans and partnerships to increase sustainability efforts.
In 2015, they briefly worked as an Event Lead at Tesla Motors before joining the Cheetah Conservation Fund as Nor Cal Development, where they grew donations, improved donor retention, and started a flagship CCF Chapter.
Angie's experience in organizing social impact events continued with their role as Co-lead & Advisor at the FOOD FUNDED Food Entrepreneurship and Investor Fair from 2019 onwards.
In 2020, they became an LP (Limited Partner) at How Women Invest, an early-stage venture firm focused on supporting female founders and investors.
Angie's most recent role as a Strategic Advisor at Nia Impact Capital, starting in 2021, involves investing in companies at the intersection of social justice and environmental sustainability, with a gender-lens and commitment to racial equity.
