Ruari Fairbairns has a diverse work experience starting in 1995 when they founded Ultimo Media, where they focused on selling and servicing PCs on the Isle of Mull. From 1998 to 1999, they worked as a Sales Manager at Scottish and Southern, specializing in door-to-door sales for cheaper gas and electricity. In 2000, they became a Sales Manager at Finning (UK), selling Caterpillar Plant Machinery in Edinburgh, The Borders, and Dumfries & Galloway. In 2003, they established Briaf Ltd, a Sales Outsourcing Agency, specializing in telesales, field sales, and sales strategy for SMEs in Edinburgh, mainly in the tech industry. From 2006 to 2019, they worked as a Senior Broker at PVM Oil Associates. In 2015, they founded OneYearNoBeer, a behavior change program and online toolkit aimed at helping people change their relationship with alcohol. Ruari also co-authored a book called "The 28 Day Alcohol-Free Challenge" during the same year. In 2022, they became the President of Mallorca Wordsmiths Toastmasters Club.
Ruari Fairbairns attended Tobermory High School from 1992 to 1997, where they did not obtain a degree or specialize in any particular field of study. In addition to their high school education, they also obtained a certification in Growth Marketing Programme from Startup Core Strengths in January 2022.
