James Atkinson

James Atkinson is a licensed physician and board certified in Pediatric and General Surgery. Following graduation from Wake Forest University school of medicine in 1976, he completed his general surgery training at UCLA and a fellowship in Pediatric Surgery in 1981. Dr Atkinson practiced academic pediatric surgery, being appointed as faculty member at USC/Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, (1983-1995, and subsequently at UCLA. He continues to serve as an emeritus professor of surgery at UCLA the present. During his academic career, Dr Atkinson provided complex care to children with surgical needs including transplantation. In addition to his clinical career, Dr Atkinson served as the chief of General Surgery, Pediatric surgery at UCLA. Beginning in 2008, Dr Atkinson served as a healthcare executive for UCLA Health including terms as CMO and Hospital Director for the Santa Monica campus, (2009- 2014), and as the Interim Chief Executive officer for 2016. Dr Atkinson joined the One Legacy Board of directors in April 2017.
