Pedro Volpiani

Research Engineer at ONERA

Pedro Volpiani is a research engineer at ONERA - The French Aerospace Lab since December 2019, specializing in computational fluid dynamics within the Civil Aircraft Department. Previously, Volpiani worked as a Post Doctoral Fellow at the University of Maryland College Park, focusing on shock/turbulent boundary-layer interactions for supersonic and hypersonic flows. As a PhD candidate at CentraleSupélec, Volpiani developed a dynamic wrinkling factor model for large eddy simulations of turbulent premixed combustion. Early in the career, Volpiani gained experience as a research intern at ONERA, conducting stability analysis of laminar flow over an airfoil, and at Arts et Métiers ParisTech, implementing LES sub-grid viscosity models. Additional experience includes a research engineer role at Peugeot, studying turbulent flows around car wheels to reduce aerodynamic drag. Volpiani holds a PhD in Reactive Fluid Mechanics from CentraleSupélec, a Master's degree in Fluid Mechanics from Pierre and Marie Curie University, a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical and Chemical Engineering from ENSTA Paris, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from USP - Universidade de São Paulo.
