Gerhard Girkinger's work experience begins in 2006 with a role as the Marketing Coordinator for Germany at Austrian Airlines. From 2007 to 2012, they worked at Star Alliance, first as a Project Manager and then as a Manager in Membership Development. During this time, they successfully managed integration projects for seven airlines joining the alliance and negotiated contracts and agreements with member airlines and external vendors.

In 2012, Girkinger joined Emirates Group as a Sales & Accounts Manager, eventually being promoted to Account Director. Gerhard led sales and account activities for key airline accounts under the Mercator brand.

Since 2015, Girkinger has been with oneworld Alliance. Gerhard started as the Manager of Membership and Alliance Delivery, where they developed audit processes and managed coordination across member airlines for large-scale projects. In 2018, they were promoted to Director of Membership and Alliance Delivery, overseeing alliance governance and compliance across multiple functional areas. In 2023, they advanced to the role of Vice President of Customer Experience, Delivery, and Membership, responsible for driving customer experience initiatives and membership functions.

Gerhard Girkinger attended IMC Krems University of Applied Sciences from 2001 to 2005, where they obtained a Mag. (FH) degree in Tourism Management & Leisure Industry. Additionally, in 2003 and 2004, they studied at Université Savoie Mont Blanc and received a Licence degree in Tourism Management.
