Yang-Chung Liao

Applications Manager/scientist at Onto Innovation

Yang-Chung Liao has a diverse work experience in the field of applications and research. Starting in 2001, they served as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow at National Tsing Hua University, focusing on building scanning tunneling microscopes and observing tunneling spectroscopy. They then became a Visiting Scientist at the University of Augsburg, where their work involved fabricating interfaces and electric-field-effect devices. In 2010, they joined Academia Sinica as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. In 2011, they joined Nanometrics as a Sr. Applications Scientist, where they accomplished tool acceptance in a leading foundry and later became an Apps Scientist Manager, responsible for application development and mentoring colleagues. Their most recent role, starting in 2019, is at Onto Innovation as an Applications Manager/Scientist, leading a team and implementing machine-learning recipes for Optical Critical Dimension application development.

Yang-Chung Liao obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Physics from National Chiao Tung University between the years 1992 and 1995. Yang-Chung went on to pursue further education and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Physics from National Tsing Hua University, completing the degree between the years 1995 and 2001.
