Rua is the STEM Education Coordinator for Open Avenues Foundation. As a former 6th and 8th-grade science teacher from Success Academy middle school in Bed-Stuy, Rua has strengthened and brought joy to STEM education for over 200 scholars. In 2020, Rua received a BA in Geology and a minor in Studio Arts from CUNY Queens College. Throughout her undergraduate career, Rua has conducted several NSF-funded research projects in places such as Antarctica and Costa Rica. She is also the founder of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit called We Are STEM (WSTEM) which strives to network, enhance, and inspire NYC underrepresented students in the STEM fields.
