Joe Carroll has a diverse work experience in the fields of medicine and mathematics. Joe worked as an Affiliate Assistant Professor at the OHSU Department of Family Medicine starting in 2013. Prior to that, they were a Staff Physician and Research Director at Open Door Community Health Centers since 2004. Additionally, Joe worked as an Adjunct Professor at Humboldt State University Department of Mathematics since 1984.

Joe Carroll earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mathematics from the University of Notre Dame, where they studied from 1965 to 1969. Joe then pursued further education at Harvard University, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Mathematics and a Master of Arts (A.M.) degree between the years 1969 and 1973. Later, from 1976 to 1978, Joe attended the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where they completed their Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree with a focus on Medicine.
