Matthew Stares RIBA FRSA has worked in the architecture and real estate development fields since 1997. Matthew began their career at RTKL as an Architect, followed by a role as an Architect at Allies and Morrison. Matthew then moved to Steffian Bradley Architects as an Architect. In 2005, they became the Retail Development Architect at Harrods Ltd, where they were responsible for all refurbishment and new installations across Beauty, Menswear and Womenswear sectors. In 2007, they were appointed Head of Store Planning at Brown Thomas, where they oversaw all real estate and development. In 2010, they became a Partner at ONS, a strategic advisor and occasional investor in retail and retail-oriented businesses. In 2013, they co-founded and advised Open Energy Group, a peer-to-project on-line finance platform. In 2012, they joined Herman Miller as Senior Vice President of Global Real Estate, Architecture and Development, a role they held until 2021. Matthew also held the roles of Vice President Global Real Estate, Architecture and Development, Vice President, Places and Real Estate Development, and Director of Places and Real Estate Development at Herman Miller. In 2020, they became an Associate Head Coach at East Grand Rapids High School.

Matthew Stares RIBA FRSA has an extensive education history. Matthew began their studies in 1988 at Bedford Modern School and continued until 1993. Matthew then attended Kingston University from 1993 to 1997, where they received a BA (Hons) in Architecture. In 1999, they attended The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, and obtained a Master of Architecture - MArch in 2001. From 2002 to 2003, they attended the University of Westminster and obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Practice in Architecture. In 2018, they attended the Center for Higher Ambition Leadership and obtained the HALI Advanced Leadership Program in 2019. Matthew is currently attending Yale School of Management and is expected to receive their Yale Global Executive Leadership Program in Business Administration and Management, General in 2022.
