Sarat Puthenpura serves as the Chief Architect for the Open Radio Access Network at the Open Networking Foundation since January 2023, overseeing projects related to Open RAN, SMaRT-5G, and Aether, while also leading a research grant focused on 5G energy efficiency from NTIA. Prior to this role, Puthenpura was the Chief Architect for Wireless at STL - Sterlite Access Solutions, where innovative wireless solutions were developed. With a robust background at AT&T spanning over two decades, Puthenpura held various leadership positions focusing on network automation, next-generation wireless technology, and capacity planning for Radio Access Networks. Early career experience includes managing network planning and deployment at Birla AT&T Communication Limited and contributing to international network planning at AT&T Bell Labs. Puthenpura holds a Ph.D. in Electrical & Computer Engineering from McMaster University and a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
