Karl Cobbe is an experienced research scientist, machine learning fellow, software engineer and applied physics intern with expertise in various fields. In 2018, they worked as a research scientist and machine learning fellow at OpenAI. Prior to that, they worked as a software engineer at Art of Problem Solving from 2016 to 2017 and at Chatous from 2014 to 2015. Karl also has experience as a hardware verification engineer at Hewlett-Packard in 2011 where they developed expertise in JasperGold, a formal verification tool and found hardware design bugs. Additionally, they worked as an applied physics intern at Impulse Devices, Inc. in 2008 where they developed a Java applet that simulates the pressures within IDI's experimental, spherical resonators during the occurrence of high-pressure transient cavitation and analyzed the frequency response of the spheres.
Karl Cobbe attended Phillips Exeter Academy from 2005 to 2009 but did not earn a degree or study a specific field. Karl later attended Stanford University from 2010 to 2014, where they received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science with a focus on Artificial Intelligence.
