Opera Kansas is a nonprofit performing arts organization dedicated to making opera accessible, relevant, and rooted in the civic life of Kansas.

Founded in 1985, Opera Kansas produces chamber opera, new works, reimagined masterpieces, and educational programming across Wichita and the surrounding region. Our performances appear in both traditional theaters and unconventional spaces—schools, parks, and civic venues—ensuring that opera reaches audiences where they live.

Opera Kansas also develops emerging artists, commissions new work, and partners with community organizations to integrate opera into local culture. Our Zepick Modern Opera Commission supports innovative short-form operas by today’s most exciting composers and librettists.

The company’s leadership is guided by Executive Director Zeffin Hollis, an acclaimed baritone and stage director with a dual background in performance and arts management. Hollis also serves as Managing Director and Co-Artistic Director of OperaWorks, bringing national-caliber artistic development to our local work.

Now entering its 40th season, Opera Kansas remains committed to telling resonant stories, supporting artists at every level, and proving that opera is not just for the elite—it’s for everyone.
