Charlotte Steppling has a diverse work experience background. Charlotte currently holds the position of Director Global Medical Education for Comprehensive Care at Operation Smile, a humanitarian organization. Prior to this, they were the Director of Nonsurgical Programs and the Nutrition Program Manager at Operation Smile. In these roles, they were responsible for overseeing nutrition programs, developing program curriculum, and engaging with various stakeholders on nutrition-related initiatives.
Before working at Operation Smile, Charlotte was the Founder of the Mahereza Nutrition and Health Center in Madagascar. Through this organization, they focused on reducing child mortality, improving maternal and infant health, and decreasing malnutrition.
Additionally, Charlotte founded the Cultural Center of Hope, a local center that supported language and technology skills for community members in Mahanoro, Madagascar. Charlotte conceptualized and built the center, raised funds, and garnered support from the local community and government.
Furthermore, Charlotte has experience working with USAID, where they served as a Senior Operations Specialist in the Health, Population, and Nutrition Office. In this role, they provided operational and programmatic support, including budget oversight and strategic planning.
Earlier in their career, Charlotte worked as a Program Manager at Operation Smile, coordinating international medical missions and education programs. Charlotte also volunteered for various organizations, including Mercy Ships, Caring Response Madagascar Foundation, and Peace Corps, where they taught English and provided health and educational support.

Charlotte Steppling completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from San Francisco State University in 2008. Charlotte then pursued a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Social Justice and Policy Peace and Conflict Resolution from Duquesne University from 2010 to 2013. During this time, they also obtained Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Sociology, Communication, and Social Justice and Policy from Duquesne University. In 2018, Charlotte enrolled in the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, U. of London, where they graduated with a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in 2021. Additionally, they have acquired certifications in the Leader Accelerator Program from the Center for Creative Leadership in 2023 and in the Collective Leadership Certificate Program from Rootwise Leadership in 2022.
