Camilo Garcia

VP, Strategic Partnerships, Latin America at Opportunity International

Camilo Garcia has been working for Opportunity for the last 10 years. Before his current role as VP of Strategic Partnerships, he served as CEO of Opportunity Bank in Colombia for the last two years where he was able to successfully lead it in the merger and acquisition process, implement a financially and socially sustainable operation, and meet the annual financial objectives. He was appointed to this position in recognition of the work he conducted as CFO for seven years, in which he led all financial and accounting operations, including corporate relationships.

Camilo joined Opportunity International after working for Financiera Compartir, a microfinance bank in Bogotá, where he worked his way from planning analyst in 2006 to CFO in 2009.

In search of a finance company with a social mission, he first joined Opportunity International as a consultant. In this role, he focused on designing a new financial structure to support the organization's transition from three non-governmental entities into one centralized financial institution.

Camilo earned a master's degree in finance from Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, and two bachelors' degrees from the Universidad del Rosario, in Bogotá—in Economics, and in Finance and International Trade.

He has proactively continued his education by participating in the Opportunity International Executive Development Program and the Boulder Microfinance Institute in San Jose, Costa Rica. Also, Camilo was an honored speaker on financial indicators, representing the Colombian Finance Companies Association. Currently, he is part of the Global Alliance Banking on Values Leadership Academy 2022 Cohort. In addition, Camilo speaks three languages, is a member of the board of directors of AGAPE, an Opportunity International implementing partner in Colombia, and on the board of directors of Opportunity Bank in Colombia.
