John Randall has a long and varied work experience. Starting in 1999, they have been a freelance Web & New Media Producer, Audio Producer, Music Producer, and Sound Designer, working on award-winning web, game, film, television, radio, podcast, and commercial music projects, primarily focused on education and/or civil- and human-rights advocacy. In 2005, they became a Web Production Consultant, Sound Designer, and Audio Engineer at BrainPOP, where they directed audio production for an award-winning educational website with over 12 million visits per month. In 2008, they became a Project Associate at Harvard University's Berkman Center for Internet and Society, creating a middle school curriculum teaching copyright, fair use, and new-media literacy. In 2010, they became a Senior Clinician and Post-Graduate Fellow at Brooklyn Law School, co-founding Legal Hackers and co-organizing the NYC Legal Hackers meetup group. In 2011, they became a Summer Associate at MasurLaw, authoring memoranda analyzing the legal risks of business plans built around novel web-scraping technologies. In 2015, they became a Senior Developer at BackerKit, transforming a fledgeling Rails and Javascript project into the leading crowdfunding pledge management ecosystem. Finally, in 2022, they became a Senior Software Engineer at OpsLevel.

John Randall attended Brooklyn Law School from 2009 to 2012, where they obtained a J.D., cum laude, and a Certificate in Information Law and Intellectual Property. In 2014, they completed a 12-week Web Development Immersive program at General Assembly. Prior to that, they obtained a B.S., magna cum laude, in Digital Communications and Media from New York University in 2009.
