Joel Schuster

Joel Schuster began their work experience as an Associate at Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault, LLP in September 2001. Joel then moved on to Davis LLP, where they worked as an Associate from February 2004 to February 2006. From 2006 to 2008, Joel worked as an Associate at DuMoulin Black LLP.

In July 2008, Joel joined Columbus Group as a VP Legal and Corporate Secretary. During their time at Columbus Group, they served as a senior executive and general counsel for a group of publicly-traded natural resource companies.

Joel joined Avigilon in October 2013 as Corporate Counsel, and later became the VP of Legal and Corporate Secretary in January 2014. In March 2015, they became the Chief Legal Officer, Senior Vice President, and Corporate Secretary at Avigilon. Joel played a key role in managing Avigilon's legal department and had global oversight over various areas, including litigation, mergers and acquisitions, contracts, and patents. Under their leadership, Avigilon experienced significant growth, more than tripling its annual revenue and profit from 2013 to 2017.

In January 2019, Joel transitioned to self-employment, serving as a Legal and Business Consultant. Joel provided legal and business advice to select companies in industries such as operational technology, financial technology, marketing technology, and fashion. Joel's consulting work involved tasks such as corporate structuring, equity financing, contract negotiation, and process optimization.

Joel became Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel at Optigo Networks in May 2021, and in January 2023, they took on the role of Chief Executive Officer. Prior to these positions, they joined Optigo Networks' board of directors in April 2020.

Joel Schuster's education history starts in 1993 when they were enrolled at the University of Toronto. Joel completed their undergraduate studies in Political Science and earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts (Hon.B.A.) degree in 1998. Following this, they pursued further education at the same institution and obtained a Juris Doctor (JD) degree in Law between the years 1998 and 2001.
