Chris O'Neill has a diverse work experience. Chris currently works at Optos as a Senior System Engineer since October 2022 and previously as a System Engineer from September 2021 to September 2022. Prior to that, they were employed at The University of Edinburgh as a Postdoctoral Research Associate from April 2017 to August 2021, where they focused on experimental investigation of metals with strong quantum fluctuations. Before joining the University of Edinburgh, they also served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate from August 2015 to March 2017, specializing in the field of strongly correlated electron systems and topologically protected states. Additionally, they had a summer internship at the MAX BORN INSTITUTE for Nonlinear Optics and Short Pulse Spectroscopy in 2008.

Chris O'Neill completed their education with a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Condensed Matter and Materials Physics from Queen's University Belfast, where they studied from 2006 to 2010. Chris then pursued further studies and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in the same field from The University of Edinburgh, attending from 2010 to 2015. In 2023, they underwent a short-term educational program at MIT xPRO, specializing in Architecture and Systems Engineering: Models and Methods to Manage Complex Systems, allowing him to gain knowledge in the field of Systems Engineering.
