Terry Manies has worked in a variety of roles since 2001. From 2001-2004, Terry was an Adjunct Faculty at Southeast Community College, where they developed, implemented and assessed curricula for Composition 1011: Beginning Composition. In 2004, Terry became a Grant Writer for the State of Kansas (SRS & KDOC), generating more than $944,000 for KDOC computer security and information-management systems upgrades and more than $600,000 to support in-patient therapy programs for male inmates struggling with drug addiction. From 2005-2009, Terry was the Director of Grants Programs at Baker University, generating more than $1.6 million in private and public funding for University scholarships, programs, scientific research and administrative support. During this time, Terry was also a Proposal Preparation Specialist at the Higuchi Biosciences Center, University of Kansas, collaborating with doctors, faculty, researchers and administration professionals to prepare and submit funding applications. From 2009-2010, Terry was a Strategic Communicator and Writer at IDEAL Strategies LLC, working with businesses and non-profits in various industries. Terry then became a Grants Coordinator at Northwest Missouri State University, helping to secure more than $4.7 million in cash and in-kind support from external funding sources. From 2014-2016, Terry was the Director of Corporate Communications and Development at Aldersgate Village Retirement Community. During this time, Terry successfully planned and executed promotional events, and acquired endorsements from various groups. In 2016, Terry was a Candidate for the Kansas State House of Representatives--District 45, outperforming campaign outreach goals by 8%. From 2019-2020, Terry was the Executive Director at CASA Of Shawnee County, managing high-performing teams and overseeing successful marketing plans. Most recently, Terry has been the Manager of Grants & Strategic Initiatives at Orange EV, administering incentive-seeking activities of the organization and assisting colleagues and customers.
Terry Manies has a long and varied educational history. Terry began their studies in 1985 at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where they earned a BA in Social Anthropology. Terry then went on to study at the University College Dublin, earning an M.Phil. in Medieval Studies (Archeology) between 1989 and 1991. From 1992 to 1997, they attended the University of Minnesota, where they earned a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Archeological Studies. In 1993 and 1994, they attended both the Háskóli Íslands and the University of Reyjkavik, earning a Certificate in Icelandic language and certificates in Norwegian language and Archeology, respectively. Finally, in 2003, they attended the Grantsmanship Training Program. TGCI (The Granstmanship Center).
