Gillian Donachie has had a varied work experience. Gillian began their career in 2008 as a Customer Service Assistant at Wm Morrison Supermarkets Plc. In 2011, they became a Research Student at the University of Tromsø, where they worked to express and purify p21-activated protein kinases. In 2013, they were a Research Student at LGC Forensics, where they worked with the novel ParaDNA system for a rapid identification of potential DNA sources. In 2014, they were a Research Technician at the University of Aberdeen, working as part of the Gut Microbiology group researching issues relating to Gut Health. In 2021, they became a Research Technician at the University of Oxford, where they were involved in various projects investigating the immunopathogenesis of airway diseases and pulmonary infections. Finally, in 2022, they became the Laboratory Manager at Orbit Discovery.

Gillian Donachie received their Master of Science in Forensic Science from the University of Strathclyde in 2013. Gillian had previously earned a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Biology from the same university in 2012.
