Giuseppe Ciaramella

Giuseppe Ciaramella has extensive work experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Giuseppe currently holds the role of President at Beam Therapeutics since 2023. Prior to this, they served as President and Chief Scientific Officer at Beam Therapeutics from 2020 to 2023, and as Chief Scientific Officer from 2018 to 2020. Giuseppe is also a Co-founder and CEO of Orbital Therapeutics starting from 2022. In 2020, they joined Dewpoint Therapeutics as a Board Member. Before that, they were associated with Moderna, where they held the position of Chief Scientific Officer, Infectious Diseases from 2014 to 2018, and VP, Head Immunology and Biotherapeutics from 2014 to 2014. From 2011 to 2014, they worked at AstraZeneca as the Executive Director, External Projects, Infection. Additionally, they founded and directed Ciaramella Consulting Ltd from 2011 to 2013, providing independent, non-clinical drug discovery consulting services. Giuseppe also served as the VP, Head of Collaborative Research at Boehringer Ingelheim from 2010 to 2011. Prior to that, they held various positions at Pfizer Ltd, including Executive Director, Head of Biotherapeutics, Pfizer Sandwich from 2007 to 2010, Senior Director - External Network Lead for Europe from 2007 to 2008, Senior Director - Head of Antiviral Therapeutic Area from 2005 to 2007, and Senior Director - Head of Hit Discovery and Genetic Technologies from 2002 to 2005. Giuseppe Ciaramella's areas of specialty include biotherapeutics, anti-infectives, and change management.

Giuseppe Ciaramella started their education journey in 1981 at Liceo Scientifico, where they obtained their Diploma in Maturita' Scientifica in 1986. Following this, they pursued their undergraduate studies at UCL, earning a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Biochemistry from 1987 to 1990. Giuseppe continued their education at UCL, specializing in Biochemistry, and successfully completed their Ph.D. from 1990 to 1994.
