Tom Calvanese is an experienced professional with a strong background in fisheries science and marine biology. As the Field Station Manager at Oregon State University since January 2017, Tom oversees operations at the OSU Field Station in Port Orford, Oregon. Currently serving as the Director of The Oregon Kelp Alliance since April 2019, Tom has also previously held the position of Field Operations Technician at Oregon State University, focusing on acoustic telemetry research under Dr. Sarah Henkel. With experience as a commercial diver in the Red Sea urchin fishery and as a Manager at the Collaborative Research Training Institute, where Tom developed a training program for commercial fishermen, Tom has demonstrated a commitment to advancing fisheries research and education. Additionally, Tom worked for eight years as a Harm Reduction Trainer, specializing in conflict resolution and behavioral change strategies. Tom holds a Master of Science in Fisheries Science from Oregon State University and a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from San Francisco State University.
