Josh Garstka

Josh Garstka has a diverse work experience spanning several companies and industries. Josh began their career at Emerson College in 2008 as an Academic Writing Center Tutor, where they provided guidance on academic writing. In 2009, they joined Berklee College of Music as a Writing Center Tutor.

In 2010, Josh joined the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra as a Board Member and eventually served as the President of the Board of Directors. In this role, they gained hands-on experience in various aspects of nonprofit operations, including fundraising, branding, marketing, and board leadership.

From 2010 to 2016, Josh worked at Pearson, starting as an Assistant Rights Editor and gradually rising to the position of Senior Permissions Editor. Josh negotiated licensing contracts, managed compliance processes, and assigned project workloads to the in-house team.

Since 2016, Josh has been working at O'Reilly Media. Josh initially served as a Contracts Manager, responsible for preparing and negotiating agreements. Josh then advanced to the role of Senior Contracts Manager, Content & Commercial, where they processed agreements with subscription customers, content and event sponsors, and editorial and training talent. Their expertise extends to various types of agreements, such as publishing agreements, content development agreements, and NDAs.
