Karim Hammoud

Special Advisor To The Director-general at OPCW

Karim Hammoud is a seasoned legal professional with extensive experience in international law and policy, currently serving as Special Advisor to the Director-General at the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) since August 2011. In this role, Karim advises on legal and policy matters concerning the Chemical Weapons Convention and related legal instruments, and oversees administrative issues, employment disputes, and procedural rules within the OPCW. Previous positions include Legal Officer at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), where Karim was involved in the drafting and interpretation of international treaties and played a key role during the Fukushima nuclear accident, Assistant Director at the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO), and Junior Lawyer at the European Commission. Karim holds an LL.M. in International and European Law from the University of Helsinki and a Maitrise en Droit from the University of Paris I: Panthéon-Sorbonne.
